Helmet Protection & Safety
When it comes to riding a motorcycle, common sense should reign supreme. While it is understood that there is a certain amount of freedom that comes from feeling the wind in your hair, there are much safer methods of doing so than riding a motorcycle without a helmet.
There are many reasons that a helmet is a necessary safety device when riding a motorcycle. First and foremost, most motorcycle riders will take a spill at least once in their motorcycle riding days. Unlike when riding in a car, there is no barrier between your body and the elements when riding a motorcycle. If you take a spill on your motorcycle you are much more likely to suffer personal bodily injury than if you were riding in a car at the same speed and wearing your seatbelt.
Other than simply protecting your head from a close encounter with the pavement, motorcycle helmets for protection and safety offer other protective services if used correctly and wisely. It has been discovered that wearing brightly coloured or white helmets increase the visibility of motorcycle riders and can reduce the risk for a collision by as much as 24% when compared to wearing a black helmet.
Not only is it important that you actually wear your helmet for protection and safety but also that your helmet fits you properly. An ill-fitting helmet will not offer the same level of protection that a helmet that a properly fit helmet will offer. Wearing a full-face helmet can reduce the risk of facial scarring and possible disfigurement though this is rare it is possible. If you elect not to wear a full-face helmet you might want to consider the benefit of a visor or goggles in order to enhance visibility, protect your eyes, and avoid your eyes drying out as the result of exposure to the wind.
Motorcycle helmet protection and safety is much more than simply wearing a helmet. It is also adopting an attitude of vigilance when it comes to safety and avoiding recklessness. Bright colours and reflective tape are other excellent safety features as is driving with safety in mind.
