A woman sustained serious injuries following a head on car accident on the A6

Police said the accident happened on the A6 near Acorn Meadow, Bolton le Sands, when her Citreon C3 crossed the carriageway into the path of a Land Rover Discovery.

The driver and passenger of the landrover escaped with spinal injuries and waited in a fire engine before being taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Fire Crews from Morecambe Fire Station had to spend 40 minutes using cutting equipment to remove the roof and door of the Citreon and free the injured woman who was then tended to by paramedics.

She was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary. Police said her injuries were serious but were not thought to be life-threatening.

The A6 was closed southbound for two and a half hours after the car accident, which happened at 9.45 on Saturday, There were also diversions in place for north-boound traffic
