A woman was left stunned and injured after suffering a blow to the head in an unprovoked street attack.

Police said the criminal assault on the woman, in busy Woodland Rd, Darlington, on Tuesday evening was a ‘mystery’.

She was on her was home from work when she spotted a man with an aggressive manner muttering to himself.

The victim of the criminal assault crossed the road but minutes later was hit with a blow to the face which fractured her cheekbone.  The offender was about 6ft tall with fair hair and a short beard.
