Mum's leg crushed in forklift accident
A LOGISTICS firm has admitted breaching health and safety rules after a Kirkby mum was injured in a horrific accident at work.
Lisa Ramos, 32, was working for NYK Logistics, at it’s Burton Road factory in Findern, Derby at the time of the accident in 2006.
Miss Ramos was wearing a high visibility jacket and safety gear when she was was hit by a reversing forklift truck and knocked to the floor. She then suffered multiple fractures when the forklift ran over her left leg. She was taken to hospital where, due to the severity of the injuries, the lower part of her left leg was amputated.
The mum of one has since undergone many further operations, and is still receiving treatment. After the accident, Miss Ramos was unable to work
Since then, the company has tightened up its safety procedures spending £38,000 on improvements to prevent similar accidents in future.
The company, which distributes goods and parts for Toyota across the UK, admitted breaching the Health and Safety Act 1974 during a hearing at Derby Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
The firm’s bosses will be sentenced at Derby Crown Court on 18th September.
